Water leakage problem in split AC

 About split AC

A split unit air conditioner is a type of air conditioning system that consists of two independent units: the condensing unit (which can be water or air-cooled) and the air handling unit. The air handling unit is located in the air conditioned room, whereas the condensing unit is located in the engine room or another mechanical space. The condensing unit c

can also be installed outside. Insulated refrigerant lines link the two units. In the condensing unit, the compressor and condenser are installed. In the evaporating unit, the evaporator coil is installed. Because the condensing unit is not located within the conditioned space, the split unit air conditioner system is much quieter.

Leakage problem in split AC

1.This is the “most common” cause of leaking water. Water that has accumulated in the water tray must be evacuated from the drain pipe or drain nozzle. If dirt accumulates in the drain pipe or the nozzle, the water tray will progressively gather more and more water, eventually causing the water to overflow. As a result, water will drip from the AC.

Solution

If the pipe is damaged or pinched, replace it. The pipe must be vertically oriented in order for water to flow freely.

2. If the tray which collects water is having holes or is rusted, water will seep out leading to leakage.

Solution

Use vacuum to suck out the dirt from the nozzle and pipe or get your AC serviced by professionals.

3. The flow of water can be hampered if the drain pipe is not properly aligned. Straight and vertically oriented pipe is required. Alternatively, if the pipe is pinched at some point, the flow will be restricted. Another factor that makes water flow problematic is when the drain pipe is submerged in water. This could happen if the water bucket used to collect AC water fills up and the pipe becomes submerged in it.

Solution

If the pipe is damaged or pinched, replace it. The pipe must be vertically oriented in order for water to flow freely.

4. Water creation inside the indoor unit is a natural occurrence. However, if ice forms on the evaporator coils for whatever reason, additional water will form when the ice melts. More water from the water tray can easily overflow, resulting in water leakage. Ice development can be caused by a variety of factors, including filthy air filters, low refrigerant gas, and a malfunctioning fan capacitor.

Solution

Depending on the underlying cause of ice formation, the solution will vary. The most probable cause of ice formation is low gas for which the solution is gas refilling. Another cause can be dirty air filters(high probability), this can restrict the airflow making the evaporator coil get too chilled leading to ice formation. You must clean the air filters regularly at least once in a month.

5. If you have purchased a new air conditioner or had it serviced, you should check to see if the installation or servicing was done correctly. Water leaks may occur if the installation is not done correctly. The water tray may be positioned incorrectly, or the drain pipe may be exposed.

Solution

Call a professional and have your AC and water tray checked to verify if they are properly positioned.

Conclusion

Whether or not your air conditioner is working properly. You should have it serviced once or twice a year. As a result, the likelihood of any future malfunction is decreased, and the technician can discover the problem early. Regular maintenance ensures that the air conditioner operates at peak efficiency. This also extends its lifespan and saves money.
